A traditional bathroom, completely reimagined
Rejig Interiors completely redesigned this bathroom, transforming an awkward layout into a refined scheme with a strong traditional character.
THE BATHROOM DESIGN BRIEF
The client brief: To create a modern traditional bathroom featuring patterned floor tiles, wall panelling and a herringbone tile detail. The design was also to incorporate classic bathroom fittings, including a roll-top bath, while discreetly integrating a new hot water cylinder into the overall scheme.
MEETING THE BRIEF
Rejig Interiors completely redesigned this bathroom, transforming a dated five-piece suite into a fully designed room.
Previously, a compact shower bath sat horizontally across the rear wall with a curved bath screen it maded cleaning th children a diffcult task.. The new design introduced a corner-positioned traditional bath, turning it into the principal focal point of the room. Its distinctive inward-and-outward folding shower screen adds architectural interest, while the revised position creates a more open and inviting layout.
To accommodate the new bath, the toilet was moved from between the two windows to the far right-hand side. The radiator was then repositioned centrally between the windows, improving the symmetry of the room and creating a warmer, more cohesive result.
The colour scheme
The scheme was developed around a refined combination of soft neutral tones, warm metallic finishes and deeper contrasting details.
Matt herringbone tiles with tonal grout form the backdrop to the bathing area, introducing pattern and movement without overpowering the room. Brushed brass brassware brings warmth and depth, while complementing the traditional character of the design.
Wall panelling continues around the remaining walls, creating a seamless transition between the tiled and painted finishes. Bespoke oak shelves introduce a natural contrast, while the matt black toilet seat was selected to coordinate with the vanity and provide a crisp finishing detail.
Victorian-inspired patterned flooring adds character underfoot and brings the various colours and finishes together.
The finer considerations
Every detail was carefully planned to ensure the room felt complete and connected to the wider character of the home.
Decorative wall lights frame the mirror above the vanity, casting a soft, flattering glow and creating a calm atmosphere. The bespoke oak shelf provide a considered place for accessories and decorative pieces.
The placement of the radiator between the windows strengthens the room’s symmetry, while the shower screen allows the bath to remain practical without compromising its traditional appearance.
The result is a timeless bathroom with a strong identity, where the layout, materials and finishing details work together with purpose.
