Looking for a bathroom designer near you or in Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire, Essex, or London? Bathroom design is one of the most intricate areas of interior design and often the most overlooked. At Rejig Interiors, we specialise in creating bathrooms that are designed specially for you and are designed to last.
Designing a bathroom is not just about where the toilet goes, it involves a complex balance of plumbing, aesthetics, accessibility, and materials. Many homeowners, and even less experienced designers, make costly mistakes by fixating on one element at the expense of the whole bathroom.
A common example is the placement of the toilet. While it's true that having the toilet as the first thing you see isn’t ideal, obsessing over this can disrupt the entire layout.
At Rejig Interiors, we evaluate plumbing feasibility, design asthetics, and overall flow. If the toilet must be in view, we carefully select a style that becomes an elegant feature rather than an eyesore, subtle, sophisticated, and effortlessly integrated into the design.
For smaller bathrooms, we often specify wall-hung short projection pans if the wall cavity allows, which frees up floor space and enhances the feeling of openness.
As a former sales and specification manager for a global bathroom brand, I’ve seen countless poorly planned bathrooms. The bath and screen combo is often an afterthought, yet it plays a vital role in daily function.
The mechanism of the bath screen matters. Fixed screens may limit accessibility and make cleaning difficult. Pivoting or bifold screens offer better clearance and flexibility, especially in tighter layouts. When planning screen placement, remember our HCP rule:
Hit, Clear, Protect:
For luxury bathrooms, glass thickness also matters. While 6mm glass is common in new builds, it’s cheap and prone to shattering with temperature changes. 8mm is the perfect balance of durability and cost. While 10mm glass is the epitome of luxury, hardware fatigue can cause screens to drop over time meaning maintainence is crcuial.
Tempered safety glass can shatter, a terrifying but relatively common issue. To reduce the risk, maintain a stable bathroom temperature and ensure proper installation, and install those bracing bars that come at an additional cost but are required for stability. Often, it's previous knocks or poor fittings that cause failure later. At Rejig Interiors, we only work with reliable manufactuerers and install them to industry-leading standards.
Ventilation is key to a bathroom’s longevity, poor airflow leads to delamination of furniture, mould, and fixture failure. We recommend:
Avoid powder-coated brassware in hard water areas like the South East, as they can chip and degrade quickly.
Instead, invest in PVD - coated finishes, which are far more durable. But remember to avoid using harsh chemicals on these finishes which can corrode them. Also, beware of chrome-plated plastic fixtures such as shower hoses. They may look premium, but often wear down to reveal unsightly plastic. At Rejig Interiors, we specify only trusted, tested brassware.
Unlike showrooms tied to specific brands, we have no obligation to push certain products. This means every recommendation we make is based entirely on what’s right for your space, style, and budget — not on sales quotas or supplier agreements.
